NBN to be delivered to 1.9 million homes in less than 19 months.

Is the NBN coming to your neighbourhood before 2016?

Almost 2 million homes and businesses will be hooked up to the NBN within 18 months as part of an ambitious roll-out schedule by NBN Co announced on Friday.

Major regional centres across Queensland including the Sunshine Coast, Gympie, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Mackay, Airlie Beach, Maryborough, Ipswich and Caboolture all on the list.

In New South Wales, Grafton, Casino, Tweed Heads and much of the Mid-North Coast will also be connected.

The latest construction schedule will run from today until June 2016, with a goal of hooking up 1.9 million homes in 400 cities, suburbs and towns.

By 2020, NBN Co hopes to have 8 million homes able to access the NBN.

Not every area will be connected to the fibre network, with rural areas particularly likely to be given wireless access.

NBN Co chief executive Bill Morrow said new testing in the past 12 months meant the process could be sped up.

"It is these forecasts that will enable our customers, the telephone and internet service providers, to be able to start planning the delivery of services over the NBN to these communities," he said.

"Of course, the longer the forecast, the greater the likelihood that changes will occur. That's only to be expected in a project of this magnitude.

"Naturally some people will be disappointed that they are not included in today's schedule but ultimately no-one misses out as the NBN will be made available to every Australian family and business by 2020."
