DAVID Attenborough, Steve Irwin, Stewart Lee.

You may not have heard of the third bloke, but if he has his way, Stewart Lee will one day be hosting wildlife programs just like the other two famous naturalists.

The high school teacher with a passion for ecology has taken a step towards his dream by applying for a role in a 3D movie highlighting deforestation and its effects on orangatan populations in Borneo.

Ten roles are on offer in DeforestationAction: Project Borneo. Applicants must upload a short video of themselves, explaining why they want to go to Borneo and what contribution they have made to the environment.

Mr Lee has the right resume for the job of deforestation “action agent”.

He has a science degree in zoology and conservation and has worked abroad on various ecological and conservation projects, including a lion breeding program in South Africa, a marine conservation program on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, and an ecological survey of organic and inorganic coffee plantations in central America.

He is as at home working with bats, butterflies, lizards, frogs and snakes as he is with his students at Mountain Creek High, where he teaches science and maths.

One of this eco-nerd's proudest moments was working on a worm project in Nicaragua which discovered two new species of worm.

The Borneo deforestation movie could be his big break. To support his bid for a role, go to http://gg.tigweb.org/tig/deforestaction/51925/
