Nationals calling for Federal election candidates

THE Nationals have opened nominations for candidates in five Federal seats, including Cowper, in preparation for the next election.

The party has decided to open nominations until 5pm on March 11, with a candidate to be decided later by eligible party members.

Nationals Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker, who won the safe seat with 53.05% of first preference votes in 2013, is expected to nominate as a candidate in the seat he has held since 2001.

Pre-selections have also opened in the electorates of Page, New England, Riverina and Parkes.

The Greens have, meanwhile, announced Carol Vernon as their candidate for Cowper.

All other parties' candidates, including the Labor Party, are yet to be determined.

The election is yet to be called but must be held on or before January 14, 2017.
