Explore organic food during its national week
NATIONAL Organic Week Australia (NOW) urges Australians to unleash their inner foodie and explore the benefits of organic produce.
The 10 day event aims to increase awareness of the benefits of organic products and farming production systems to accelerate their uptake within the wider Australian community.
Organic food encompasses products that are free of chemicals, additives, hormones and antibiotics.
Buying organic is simple and filled with health benefits according to ambassador of National Organic Week and Australian television personality, Costa Georgiadis.
"As consumers, you want food you can recognise and trust," he said.
"Buying organic products supports food safety, health, good nutrition and the environment.
"By using organic products, you minimise your intake of synthetic chemicals, you reduce animal cruelty and help encourage sustainable farming practices."
National Organic Week was initiated by not-for-profit organisation Centre for Organic Research & Education (CORE) in 2008, conducting year round organic research, education and awareness activities.
