NBN to offer job opportunities
FACE-to-face help in taking advantage of the opportuni- ties offered by the arrival of the National Broadband Network in Coffs Harbour, and new local jobs created by the rollout of digital fibre in the city, were two pieces of good news which emerged from the Coffs Harbour NBN Business Forum.
The forum at the Coffs Harbour Showground's Norm Jordan Centre on Wednesday attracted 90 business people to listen to Danny McCarthy, the assistant secretary of the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy; NBN Co. community relations advisor Darren Rudd and NBN broadband champion Dave Abrahams, the co-founder of vTeam and the Chair of YouthConnections.com.au
Mr McCarthy talked about the National Digital Economy Strategy; the Digital Enterprise Initiative; international competitiveness; teleworking and the Digital Business website.
Mr McCarthy said the Federal Government-funded Digital Enterprise Initiative would provide direct access to consultants for business, with group training seminars and one-to-one face-to-face advice to small and medium business and non-profit organisations to help them make the most of the NBN.
Mr Rudd said there was an opportunity for small business to become involved in the local NBN rollout and as local contractor Silcar established its depot and ramped up its operation there would be the opportunity for a lot of local employment.
