Nambucca's only private school plans more enrolments in 2015

A BIG increase in student numbers is expected when school resumes at Nambucca Valley Christian Community School.

Contract builder CBuild handed over a new classroom block on Friday to accommodate the growth, ahead of an official opening next year.

From 2015, the only private school in the Nambucca Valley will offer classes for years 9 and 10, with enrolments growing from 50 to 135 in the past two years.

"The new building isn't just for years 9 and 10," principal Jeff Allen revealed.

"All high school year groups will be taught in the purpose-built food technology, design and technology, and science and general classrooms.

"As a growing school we are able to offer smaller classes but we now have the facilities to match our move into senior school."

School board member Howard Penn managed the building project on behalf of a community which helped secure federal government funding for 40% of the building cost.

"We are also hopeful of receiving another government grant for the next stage of the school's growth," he said.

"It's been a very satisfying build as far as we are concerned.

"After we accepted their competitive tender, CBuild got on with the work and the project has generally run on time and on budget throughout.

"Site supervisor Mike Howard has also been very co-operative and responsive to issues."

CBuild managing director Clive Simmonds said having local tradespeople engaged on the project made it a smoother process.

"We had a good run with the weather and a great team of sub-contractors," he said.

Funding for the four classrooms and amenities came from a $400,000 federal grant organised by Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker and $600,000 was raised by the school community.
