Nambucca's employment concerns

THE latest unemployment figures for NSW centres have sparked concerns for industry in the Nambucca Shire.

The valley has recorded the highest figures on the Mid North Coast, with the local unemployment rate standing at 8.3%

That is well above the state average of 5.1%.

Bellingen's jobless rate meanwhile stood at 6.9% for the March quarter, while Coffs Harbour recorded an unemployment rate of 6.1%.

The latest figures released by Job Services Australia show a definite difference between unemployment in the southern half of the Mid North Coast and centres north of Port Macquarie.

Port's unemployment rate stood at 5%, the greater Hastings at 5.5% while unemployment in Kempsey fell to 6.5% a record low for the second successive quarter.

The biggest job sector turn-around came in Gloucester where unemployment is well below the State and regional average at 2.2%.

Mining has been credited with Gloucester's fall in unemployment.

Taree meanwhile stands above Coffs Harbour with an unemployment rate of 6.4%.
