Mystery powder in Emerald mail

A MAN, 69, and a woman, 56, had the fright of their lives when a suspicious substance turned up in the post at Emerald Beach.

They received a letter in the mail at their Drummer Crescent house on Wednesday and discovered it contained a white powder.

They contacted emergency services, with NSW Fire Brigades hazardous materials crews, police and ambulance attending.

The occupants were taken to hospital as a precaution, but police said no-one suffered any adverse effects from the yet-to-be identified substance.

  • A WOMAN, 22, will face court for alleged mid-range drink-driving.

Police breath-tested the woman in Newry Street, Nambucca Heads, at 12.45am on Wednesday.

A subsequent breath analysis returned a reading of .085.

  • A MAN, 31, has been charged with cannabis cultivation following a raid at Warrell Creek, south of Macksville.

Police seized 22 cannabis plants from a Mill Lane property.
