THE reality of Dan and Steph Mulheron's My Kitchen Rules win is still sinking in for the Hervey Bay couple.

Speaking to APN this morning, Dan said it has been an emotional 24 hours.

The husband-and-wife duo didn't find out they'd beaten fellow Queenslanders Jake and Elle Harrison until the show aired last night, part of Seven's efforts to keep the details of the winner tightly under wraps.

Two alternate endings were filmed to ensure neither team had to keep their win secret in the weeks leading up to last night's grand final.

"It was a really nerve wracking, anxious day yesterday," he said.

"We caught up with Kerrie and Craig (Palmer) for lunch, and before we knew it we were watching the grand final."

Surrounded by family and friends in Brisbane, the Mulherons watched as the five-course challenge came down to just two points.

Dan said Steph was particularly proud that her chocolate mint delice dessert helped to get them across the line.

"It was good because in the semi-final she was a bit upset about her dessert," he said.

"She wanted to redeem herself and she did in a big way."

Once the dust settles Dan said they plan to "take it all in at home" and look at trying to get pregnant via IVF again when "it's the right time".
