Musos get parents backing

EVERY parent hopes their son grows up to marry a nice girl, but it doesn't hurt if that girl just so happens to be an ARIA-nominated pop star.

Toowoomba residents Lyn and Robyn Nuttall are the proud parents of Keir Nuttall, former Toowoomba Grammar School student turned musician, collaborator and husband to Australian singer Kate Miller-Heidke.

The couple will be at Toowoomba's Empire Theatre this Saturday to cheer on their son and daughter-in-law during their first Australian tour in three years.

"We've followed Keir and Kate all around the countryside, including seeing them at shows at London, Soho, Woodford and Byron Bay," Mr Nuttall said.

"They've actually been recording demos for Kate's new album in a home studio in Toowoomba since October last year."

"The studio doesn't have wi-fi internet and Lyn is a bit of a gourmet chef so they've been coming over here for dinner nearly every night," Mrs Nuttall added.

Keir produced and has co-writing credits on all the songs featured on Ms Miller-Heidke's breakthrough album Curiouser.

Mr Nuttall said Ms Miller-Heidke had been part of the family ever since her wedding in 2007.

"She's just lovely and doesn't take anything for granted; she really has worked hard to get to where she is," he said.

"Kate and Keir started dating when they were both studying at the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane.

"We went to see Kate perform and she just had the most amazing voice.

"I was flabbergasted that this glamorous girl actually wanted to hang out with our son," he joked.
