Muscat seething over Victory's schedule

FOOTBALL: Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat has been left fuming over his side's scheduling for next month.

The Victory's round-seven clash with Wellington at Westpac Stadium will now take place on Tuesday, January 17 - four days before another away game in Perth.

The game was forced to be postponed due to the 7.5-magnitude earthquake that rocked New Zealand last month.

"We accept that and our condolences go out to everyone in New Zealand. But all of a sudden, within the fixtures now, we've been severely disadvantaged,” Muscat said.

"It's disappointing, that week is going to be a difficult week for us.”

With no direct flight from Wellington to Perth, the Victory will head back to Melbourne and then west.

"They're the cards we've been dealt ... Rather than worry about it and cry about it, we're going to have to roll our sleeves up and do it the right way,” Muscat said.

"There's no greater satisfaction than winning in Wellington and going to Perth and winning there, and doing it the hard way because no one else thinks you can do it.

"That gives me some severe motivation.”

In the meantime, the Victory (third) will tonight set their sights on the Wanderers (sixth), who are coming off their first win in seven outings, against Central Coast.

The Wanderers will be keen to notch another victory after believing they played well without getting the result in the season-opening 3-0 loss to the Victory.

"It plays on our mind because of how good we were,” Wanderers coach Tony Popovic said ahead of the game at Spotless Stadium.

"We understand the challenge ahead, but we also go into it with the belief that we're good enough to win.”
