Murray, Kerber crowned world tennis champs
TENNIS: World No.1s Andy Murray and Angelique Kerber have rounded off their impressive years by being crowned the International Tennis Federation's world champions.
Murray won his second Wimbledon crown in July before becoming the first player to win two Olympic singles gold medals with a victory over Juan Martin Del Potro in Rio.
The Briton also won nine more ATP singles titles before defeating Novak Djokovic in the season-ending ATP Tour finals in London to secure the top ranking.
Murray's brother Jamie was named doubles world champion along with Brazilian Bruno Soares.
"It means a lot to me to be named ITF World Champion. I have had such a memorable year,” Murray said in a statement.
Kerber won the Australian and US Open titles as well as an Olympic silver medal in Rio.
She is the first German to win the award since Steffi Graf claimed the last of her seven in 1996.
