Mungungo finish world-beaters at charity cricket day

TEAMS from far and wide competed for the coveted crown but the home side proved world beaters in Mungungo on Saturday.

Players from Moura, Mundubbera, Calliope and Bundaberg descended on the MCG (Mungungo Cricket Ground) and braved the sweltering heat for the legendary Mungungo vs The World Cricket Day.

The boys from DJ's Steel & Concrete showed some promise, knocking out the defending champions Calliope on an undefeated run to the final.

But the Chippies were no match for the mighty home side in the decider.

Mungungo cruised to a comfortable 32-run win, their first victory at the event in three years.

Handy contributions from Matt Dahtler and Gav Woodall (both 31 not out) helped Mungungo post a imposing total of 86 off their seven overs.

Event organiser Vicki Mackay said the local boys were excited to finish on a high and praised the community for getting behind the carnival.

"All of our committee members did an awesome job getting the grounds ready,” she said.

"We're really thankful to all out sponsors and volunteers.”
