Mudjimba surfer secures spot at world tour trials
SURFING: Mudjimba's Siena Hanna has secured a dream spot at next year's Boost Mobile Pro trials after being crowned the Queensland Championship Circuit champion.
After snaring a fourth place at the Sunshine Coast Pro and second place at the MP classic, Hanna carved her way to a fourth-place finish at the third and final event of the circuit, the Alley Classic, on Sunday.
Although Gold Coaster Ellie Brooks won the event, Hanna landed enough points to see her finish on top of the circuit's overall standings and claim the state crown.
The QCC victory earned Hanna a position at the Australian Surfing Championships on the Tweed Coast in August and the 2020 Boost Mobile Pro trials at Snapper Rocks.
"I'm really happy with the title,” Hanna said in a Surfing Queensland press release.
"It's a great opportunity for me to surf against the pros at next year's (2020 Boost Mobile Pro) trials.
"This is the second year Surfing Queensland has included women into the QCC series, which everyone's stoked about. The girls put on an awesome show in those waves today, it definitely wasn't easy.”
Burleigh Heads' Thomas Woods was crowned the open men's Queensland champion after winning the Alley Classic and also earns a spot at the national championships and world tour trials on the Gold Coast next year.
Sunshine Coasters Ellia Smith and Noah Stocca finished second and third overall in the the women's and men's standings.
