MP spent more than $3,000 on flags for local groups

THERE'S no doubt the local Federal Member is flying the flag for Australia.

In fact the office of Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker spent $3654 to the end of 2014 on them.

Community demand for Australian flags increased over the past 12 months with the the while the celebrations for the Centenary of Anzac were approaching.

The figure from Mr Hartsuyker's office was moderate when compared to the $7715 spent by the office of Kevin Hogan, the Member for Page.

The Federal Government is just about to change flag spending entitlements for local members, setting a maximum of $10,000 in their office budgets.

Mr Hartsuyker's office said the demand for flags was variable, like most office expenses.

"Some periods we spend next to nothing on some items, then we get a big run on them," he said.

"We've never spent a cent on those small flag wavers.

"The most demand we have here is the big flags for schools and medium size flags people fly at home."
