M'boro will look to Maddern to cement palliative care plan

AT THE state level in 2014, Maryborough will look to MP Anne Maddern to help secure the St Stephen's Hospital facility to be used for health care when the hospital closes later this year.

Negotiations are being held to turn the centre into a palliative care unit through a public-private partnership.

In Hervey Bay, public-private health partnerships will also be a big topic after MP Ted Sorensen announced late last year that negotiations were taking place to create a permanent ophthalmology service for public patients in his electorate.

The Fraser Coast's public hospitals stopped taking referrals for elective eye surgery in 2011.
