Movie theatre theft

A MOVIE-goer had her handbag stolen from underneath a seat as she watched a film in the Coffs Harbour cinema.

The weekend’s theft has prompted a warning from police for people to be careful of their belongings in public places.

Police say the handbag was taken sometime between 9pm and 11pm Saturday.

The woman told police she put the bag between her feet and moved it under the seat during the movie.

She realised the bag was missing when she got up to leave the theatre.

Her wallet and handbag contained $27 in cash along with her medical cards, drivers licence, bank and credit cards and personal papers.

Officers investigating the theft have interviewed the victim and cinema staff and have called for anyone who might have seen anything suspicious to contact Coffs Harbour Police on 66520299.

In an unrelated incident a large sum of cash was stolen from a car left parked outside Coffs Harbour’s Birch, Carroll and Coyle cinema off Bray Street.

Police say the theft occurred between 12pm and 3.30pm on Saturday.

Unknown offenders gained entry to a white Hyundai Excel stealing $820 from a wallet left in the car. Investigations are continuing.
