Mountain mayhem, madness

A MAN who allegedly terrorised Dorrigo residents has been taken to hospital.

Police fielded numerous calls from anxious residents early yesterday when the man was allegedly violent and abusive towards householders.

Some reports said the man had been banging on doors and was at one stage yelling and screaming in front yards.

Police arrived about 8am and discovered the man near the top of Dorrigo Mountain, where it is understood he was trying to hitch a lift.

He was allegedly aggressive and delusional when the officers approached him and paramedics were also dispatched to the scene.

The man, 32, from Bargo, south of Sydney, eventually calmed down and was taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus for assessment.

There were initial fears the man was armed but police said this had not been the case.

Media outlets took calls from concerned locals who said police had not yet arrived to deal with the man.
