Mountain biker Emily Parkes invited to join Swiss facility

COULD this be the start of another brilliant Coffs Coast sporting career?

Mountain bike rider Emily Parkes, 18, has been accepted into the WCC training camp in Switzerland and will head overseas next month.

Conducted by the Union Cycliste Internationale, invitations are only extended to those assessed as having the potential and temperament for an elite career.

Emily first came under notice as a precocious 16-year-old rookie during 2011 and soon was called up to represent Australia at junior level in the Oceania series.

She is now attending university in Canberra.

"This is incredibly exciting news," Emily said.

"Following this camp, I will be heading over the border into Norway to proudly wear the Australian stripes again and represent the country at the 2014 UCI Mountain Bike World championships.

"I'd like to offer a massive thank you to Torq Australia, my coach Mark Fenner from FTP Training and my parents for allowing me to continue my childhood dream and have this amazing life experience."
