Motorists won battle : Cowper MP

AUSTRALIAN motorists will be the main beneficiaries from the failure of the FuelWatch program, claims Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker.

“From day one FuelWatch was a fraudulent scheme designed to get Kevin Rudd off the hook for leading Australians to believe he could deliver lower fuel prices,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

“All objective analysis highlighted that FuelWatch would have been bad for struggling Australian families.

“There is a mountain of evidence which clearly showed FuelWatch would have flattened out the fuel price cycle and prevented motorists from purchasing fuel when it was being discounted. And it is at the bottom of the price cycle that the majority of Australians buy their fuel.

“FuelWatch would have disadvantaged independent operators, driven smaller service stations owners to the wall and encouraged price collusion within the industry.”

“The Rudd Government should thank the Senate for saving the Australian taxpayer millions of dollars and for protecting Australian motorists from paying more at the bowser,” he added.
