Motorists warned of highway delays

MOTORISTS driving on the Pacific Highway around Ballina today are being warned to brace for extensive delays as holiday makers getting in early for the long weekend create a big traffic snarl at the town's southern entrance.

However, the NSW Transport Management Centre suggests frustrated Ballina motorists might be getting off lightly compared to other towns on the highway.

As of 1pm, there was a 7.5km queue of cars trying to get into Kempsey, adding about half an hour to travel times.

At the southern end of the highway, traffic was reported to be swarming around Hexam as well.

People going away for the long weekend were advised to plan their trip, allow extra travel time, take regular breaks and drive to the conditions.

The latest traffic conditions are available at www.livetraffic.com or by calling 132 701.
