Motorcyclist loses arm and leg
AN accident involving a car and a motorbike between South West Rocks and Kempsey has resulted in horrific injuries for the motorcyclist.
Around midday yesterday the 56-year-old male was treated at the scene by paramedics where one of his arms and a leg were amputated.
He also suffered spinal injuries.
The man was transported to Port Macquarie Hospital in a serious condition.
He was due to be transported by the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter from Port Macquarie Base Hospital to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.
Paramedics also treated and transported two other passengers out of the car involved in this accident. They were taken to Kempsey hospital with minor injuries.
This accident came on the same day as five people died in a horror smash south of Sydney and a double fatality occurred south of Grafton.
Assistant Police Commissioner John Hartley said it had been an “horrific day”.
“It’s just a shocking, shocking day, and I can’t remember a day as bad as this in 15 years,” he said.
In local police news, Toyota Landcruisers have been stolen on the Northern Beaches.
A 1988 Landcruiser was taken from Market Street, Woolgoolga between 6pm Friday and 7.30am on Saturday. Registration RJL 152.
Another was taken from the Amble Inn at Corindi Beach between 7.45pm and 10pm Friday with the registration YHH 700.
