Motorbike rider hospitalised after collision

A MOTORCYCLIST was taken to Coffs Harbour hospital by ambulance after an accident at McGrath's Creek Bridge south of Urunga on the Pacific Highway north of Valla yesterday morning.

The motorcycle collided with a van about 9.20am, injuring two people, one seriously with the other suffering only minor injuries.

It is understood the injured motorcyclist ended up under an Armco railing on a bend on the crest of a hill, creating a dangerous situation for rescue crews.

Late yesterday he was still undergoing treatment in the emergency department of Coffs Harbour Health Campus and his condition was described by the hospital as 'stable'.

Ambulance, Bellingen police and Rural Fire Service crews attended. RFS crews spread powder on the highway to mop up oil from the accident and requested warning oil spill signs for northbound traffic.

The van was driven away but the maroon Yamaha motorcycle had to be towed from the scene.
