More work to commence for CBD upgrade
A NEW section of Harbour Dr is about to become a construction zone, as the next project in the CBD Masterplan upgrade gets under way.
Work to raise the shared pedestrian and traffic zone on Harbour Dr begins on Monday.
Chairman of the masterplan committee Rod McKelvey said the work coincides with the Gordon St/Harbour Dr intersection.
"We're doing these works at the same time... so that we can minimise the disruption to CBD traders and it's also the quietest trading time," he said.
Both projects are expected to be completed by early September.
The raised shared zone is designed to more clearly connect City Square with the pedestrian pavement on the northern side of Harbour Dr.
Mr MrKelvy said it underlines the higher importance of access for pedestrians and those using mobility aids over traffic.
From Monday, the existing temporary turning bay on Harbour Dr will be moved further west to accommodate the work on the shared zone.
A delivery access point will be created at the turning bay to allow Coffs Coast Growers Market stallholders access to City Square for set-up and pack-up.
Pedestrians will be directed to a crossing zone provided through the closed section of Harbour Dr.
Park Avenue Lne will provide access for goods deliveries to all Harbour Drive premises on the southern side impacted by the construction.
