More than $60,000 raised for Morcombe movie

AS THE crowdfunding efforts for a Daniel Morcombe movie surpassed the $60,000 mark Bruce and Denise Morcombe's surprise at the reaction also continues to grow.

Three hundred and seventy supporters had pledged $62,245 as of Wednesday night, with 21 days still on the clock to reach the $300,000 target.

If they can reach that, it will fast-track production of the Where is Daniel film, which has already attracted legendary Hollywood cinematographer Dean Cundey and director Peter Cousens.

Denise Morcombe was hopeful the steady stream of cash coming, as people signed on to either be recognised in film credits, spend a day on set or even star as an extra, would lead to the target being smashed.

Bruce Morcombe said one of the surprising aspects had been the number of people in the local arts community who had reached out to be a part of the project which is set to be filmed on the Coast.

"We've received a couple of dozen inquiries in the office and more emails of people interested in production of the movie," he said.

He said sound engineers, camera operators and even musos had come forward looking to be involved in a film which is hoped to pull some serious Hollywood heavyweights' interest.

"We didn't expect that little flurry of activity," Bruce said.

He said Mr Cundey was due to head to Australia next month.
