Morcombes "quietly confident" about sex-offender laws

BRUCE Morcombe says he is "quietly confident" laws named after his son will soon be passed, to bring about a public sex-offender register in the Northern Territory.

The Sunshine Coast-based child safety campaigner and his wife Denise are keenly watching how legislation giving the public online access to names, photos and general locations of convicted serious sex offenders rolls out, as they shape a push to implement a national register.

The Northern Territory Parliament is considering what is known as Daniel's Law, introduced last month.

It has been met with concerns of vigilantism as well as identification of victims.

But Mr Morcombe said people wanted to know if they had a deviant living next door.

"We need to equip ourselves with some skills and some tools to make sure our kids are safe," he said.
