Festival 'moons' Fortitude Valley

THE 2011 Valley Moon Lantern Festival will bathe Brisbane's Fortitude Valley in colour and culture from September 10 to 11.

Presented by Brisbane City Council, the annual street festival of music, dance, song and cuisine is one of the most important celebrations in the Lunar Chinese Calendar.

This year, the celebration will begin on September 10 and the actual Moon Lantern Festival day is Monday, September 12.

Brisbane's Chinatown Mall will be full of fabulous activities featuring Chinese culture.

There will be a Chinese lion dance, dragon parade complemented by the drum music and firecrackers and also Chinese cuisine, cultural dance and song, Chinese Opera, Kung Fu, competition and many more activities.

The Valley Moon lantern Festival provides a real cultural experience and understanding of Asian tradition through the city's connection with Asian communities.

Every year, the festival attracts about 40,000 people to celebrate this street event in Chinatown. The festival also will be celebrated in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore.
