Mooloolaba Lions club celebrating service milestone

THIS year is a special one for all Lions Clubs as the worldwide service organisation notches up 100 years.

Lions had its origins in 1917 in the US.

In Australia, the first club was chartered in the Lismore area 70 years ago.

Australian clubs have a proud history of achievement in disaster and emergency relief, sponsoring medical research and community service.

To celebrate, Lions Clubs throughout Australia are giving away more than $100,000 to in excess of 100 local community projects.

Whether a community garden, kids' playground or just someone who needs a hand, all projects were welcomed. Each winner received a $1000 grant to help fund their community project.

The Mooloolaba club is on target again this year to give $170,000 to aid projects.

Nearly all these funds have been raised from the club's Sunday morning Fishermans Road Markets.

The club thanks stallholders and shoppers for their on-going support of the market, now in its 17th year of operation.

Birthday activities will be held over the next couple of months at the Sunday markets.
