Monsieur Gustave set for big race

HORSE RACING: Corbould Park trainer Darryl Hansen will be trackside during the group one Altus Kingsford-Smith Cup on Saturday with Monsieur Gustave ready to gallop.

Hansen's Monsieur Gustave will burst from the gates in the $700,000 Weight-For-Age event at Doomben with Jeff Lloyd in the saddle. He faces some tough odds, heading in as least favourite at $67.

The five-year-old gelding had a stellar 2017 after claiming four wins during some top prizemoney races.

He returned from a lengthy spell in April this year and has experienced a slow start so far with fourth and 11th place finishes at Doomben.

He won't be the only Coast-based talent in the race, with jockey Damian Browne in the saddle on second favourite Impending.

He has plenty of history with the entire, recently pushing him to victory in the group two Victory Stakes at Doomben in April and then second place during the Doomben 10,000 earlier this month.

Browne will also feature during the $500,000 group three Queensland Oaks as he jumps in the saddle of the Ciaron Maher-trained Aloisia.

There's set to be plenty of racing action locally on Sunday as well as the Sunshine Coast Turf Club hosts an eight-race card from noon.
