Monk announced as new Morcombe ambassador

A SEA of red flooded Palmwoods for the 14th annual Walk for Daniel.

Walkers passed two houses; the place where 13-year-old Daniel Morcombe resided with his family and the place dubbed Daniel House where his parents Bruce and Denise hope to provide support for child victims and education on child safety.

A new addition to this year's walk was TV-personality and singer Sophie Monk, who was announced as the newest ambassador to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.

"It's just always been my favourite foundation and what it's about," the ambassador said.

"My little sister educated me on it and I went to the school and saw Denise and Bruce talk and thought I've got to be a part of it.

"They work so hard. You can see the kids in assemblies and they're really reacting.

"It's incredible the connection they have."

Assistant Minister for Children and Families, Federal MP Michelle Landry joined more than 1000 others on the walk.

"It is my privilege to take part in the walk and honour the memory of Daniel and the tireless work of his loving family," she said.

Daniel's parents were floored to see so many in attendance at the Palmwoods walk in support of their son and their message of safety.

"It's 15 years in a few weeks since Daniel was abducted just at the start of our walk," Denise said.

"Just to see the increase in number of people coming to our walk and all the schools and daycare centres... it's really heart-warming to think that Daniel's legacy is going to be living on for a long, long time.

"It's about educating children and about keeping kids safe. It's not about Bruce and I and our family, it's about keeping Australian kids safe."

Bruce also remarked on the rapid build at Daniel House, which is on track to open mid-February 2019.
