Moffatt waits on phone call

FORMER Coffs Coast triathlete Emma Moffatt will be nervously waiting by the phone this morning before the call from Triathlon Australia's selectors comes.

This call will let the 23-year-old know whether she has been picked for the team to go to the Beijing Olympics.

Gold Coast triathlete Emma Snowsill has already been assured one of the three places on the women's team.

Moffatt is hoping to fill one of the remaining places in the team but has been competing with Erin Densham, Felicity Abram and Annabel Luxford for a trip to China.

Triathlon Australia's Nomination Criteria for the Games varies significantly from criteria used for past Olympics.

Athletes were not required to win certain selection races, as in the past. Rather, selectors were given the discretion to choose athletes for Beijing who had consistently performed at a high level across a one year period.

Having won twice over the last 12 months at World Cup level at Edmonton and New Plymouth, Moffatt has done everything possible to stake her claim for selection.

Now it's just a matter of getting the thumbs up from selectors this morning.
