Moffatt one race away from team selection for Rio
THE COFFS Coast is one race away from having the first athlete to cheer on at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Northern Beaches triathlete Emma Moffatt has been selected for the ITU World Olympic Qualification event on August 2, the first step towards earning Olympic team nomination.
If Moffatt is chosen she will create history as the first Australian triathlete to go to the Games on three occasions.
She won bronze in Beijing and recently finished with bronze in the ITU World Triathlon Series race in Yokohama in a confidence-boosting result behind the unstoppable American Gwen Jorgensen.
Her Gold Coast-based teammate Ashleigh Gentle earned her first WTS top-three finish in the same race when she produced a spirited silver medal showing in what was a breakthrough performance for the former ITU Junior World Champion. Erin Densham is also in contention after coming back from the injury that almost ended her career.
