A VISIT to Park Beach Plaza usually involves retail therapy but this weekend there will be a special sparkly item on display and it won’t be for sale.

As part of the celebration of the Miss Universe Australia 2010 Regional NSW preliminary event, the coveted crown is in town.

The bejewelled tiara, which will be worn by the reigning Miss Universe Australia, is what local contestants at today’s heats and tomorrow’s final are competing for.

Created by Melbourne design house, Temelli Jewellery, the $30,000 crown is set with more than 800 diamonds and features five white cultured pearls, natural Australian opal and mother of pearl.

“Just like the girl who will be crowned Miss Universe Australia, who may even be at the heats today, the Miss Universe Australia crown itself should reflect what the competition is all about – putting forward the best Australia has to offer with a distinctly Australian look and personality,” Mr Temelli of Temelli Jewellery said.

The search for Miss Universe Australia 2010 starts at Park Beach Plaza today with heats at 1pm and 3pm with the final taking place tomorrow at noon.

In addition to the Regional NSW Miss Universe Australia preliminary title, the highest-ranking Coffs Coast entrant will win the title of Coffs Harbour VB Gold Cup ‘Face of the Carnival’.
