Minister invited to Coffs to see bypass benefits

COWPER MP Luke Hartsuyker has met with Infrastructure and Transport Minister Darren Chester to discuss the $1 billion Coffs Harbour bypass.

"I have taken opportunity to sit down with Mr Chester to brief him on the project and go through funding and construction timelines," Mr Hartsuyker said.

"The bypass is the missing link in the eastern seaboard transport route and I briefed him on the impacts a lack of a bypass continues to have as the heavy Pacific Hwy traffic gridlocks cross-city traffic movements on a daily basis.

"We cannot lose momentum in the push to accelerate action on planning, funding and construction the bypass."

The Coffs Harbour bypass was last month listed as a nationally significant project by Infrastructure Australia.

"We are currently planning a trip by Mr Chester to the Cowper electorate to see first-hand how the Coffs Harbour pinch-point cripples our city traffic and impinges freight movement across the state," Mr Hartsuyker said.

"It will be a great opportunity for Mr Chester to witness the progress of the $7 billion Pacific Hwy upgrade from Port Macquarie to Ballina.

"The Coffs Harbour bypass will create even more jobs for locals and inject millions of dollars into the local economy; so we need to get workforce planning under way and businesses prepared to supply the project."
