Mining Expo gets early launch

SLOTS for exhibitors are selling fast for the 2012 Surat Basin Energy and Mining Expo.

With nine months until the industry show returns to Toowoomba, 60 per cent of stalls are already accounted for.

"At this early stage it's very encouraging," organiser Bob Carroll said.

Industry and media representatives met for the show's official launch this morning in The Chronicle's boardroom.

Mr Carroll said last year's inaugural event injected $6.1 million into Toowoomba's economy.

Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce CEO Greg Johnson said any moves to help local businesses should be applauded.

"We're all about supporting small businesses and industries," he said.

"We want everyone in Toowoomba to be employed - and by local businesses - so we support anything that promotes that."

The 2012 Surat Basin Energy and Mining Expo will be held from June 20 to 21 at the Toowoomba Showgrounds.
