Million dollar babies: Coast roads set for upgrades

A million-dollar splash on road safety is set to improve conditions on two major Coast roads.

The federal government has released $1 million in funding to make improvements within the next six months to Kawana Way Link Rd and Nicklin Way at Minyama.

The funds, part of $225 million being spent in Queensland by the federal government, will go towards upgrades including a new wide centre line treatment on Kawana Way Link Rd and upgrades to the pedestrian underpass, including new safety fencing, on Nicklin Way at Minyama.

It followed an announcement of $1.54 million worth of Coast road safety upgrades announced in December, last year, by Fisher MP Andrew Wallace.

"The Morrison Government has mandated that these upgrades on some of our region's most heavily used roads must be completed by 30 June 2021," Mr Wallace said.

"With ongoing economic uncertainty caused by COVID-19 in our region, we understand the need to get meaningful, job-creating projects under way today."

The funding program will be delivered in three, six-month trances.

It is subject to "use it or lose it" conditions which mean projects had to be delivered in the next six months, otherwise funds will be reallocated to another state.
