Military pensioners want a fair go

AS AUSTRALIA commemorates the Anzacs, the issue of fairer indexation of military superannuation pensions has been raised by Tweed Heads"Fair Go" campaign leader Mr John Bushell.

He met this week with Australian Greens candidate for Richmond, Dawn Walker.

"In this week of remembrance for members of our armed forces who have done their part to defend this nation the people of the Fair Go Campaign say it is time for the nation's political elite to do more than pay lip service to the debt to service people," Mr Bushell said.

"People joining the Fair Go Campaign are not aligned with a particular party.

"They will support any politician or party making a credible undertaking to give Service people a Fair Go."

He said to date in the federal campaign the Greens have given the most credible promise of "fair dinkum support."

"This issue affects many veterans in our community," Ms Walker said.

"The Australian Greens have taken a strong stance on equitable indexation of military superannuation pensions and recognise that the current situation is unfair."

"There is a need for fairer indexation to better reflect costs of living.

"We will continue to negotiate with the government to urge them to find a way in which we can achieve a financially responsible reform of the indexation of pensions."
