Milestone for Burnside project

BOUNCING babies and their mothers have turned out to celebrate a major milestone of an invaluable Coffs Harbour community project.

More than 60 people including Melinda Pavey MLC attended the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Burnside project.

A community project run by the Uniting Church, Burnside provides support for disadvantaged families, expectant mothers and young people.

Program director Ruth Allen estimated the Burnside service has helped more than 7000 families in the last 20 years.

She said it is the only family support service in the area.

"Being a parent can be a challenge, our role is to provide support to families with children, ensuring they grow up in a safe supportive and caring environment," Ruth said.

All Burnside's services are free and accessible to any one with children under 12 years old who live in the Coffs Harbour area.
