Migrants help from officers

IMMIGRATION officials will visit Coffs Harbour this week to assist newly settled international residents with face-to-face consultation.

The regional visits program enable migrants and refugees to talk directly with an immigration officer about individual issues or questions.

The seminars cover topics such as citizenship, working visas, visas for family members, partner visas and the process for proposing refugees.

“Our regional visits attract a variety of

people, ranging from small business owners who may be having difficulty finding local staff with the right experience, to students and individuals who are seeking advice,” a Department of Immigration and Citizenship spokesman said.

“While the department provides information on the phone or on the internet, some people may not be aware of recent policy changes or prefer to speak to officers face-to-face.”

Regional employers who are interested in sponsoring overseas workers can make an appointment with Stephen Romano from the department on 0401 998 817.

Appointments to discuss visa or citizenship matters can be made at North Coast Settlement Services in Duke St, by phoning 0409 394 940. Immigration office will be available for appointment tomorrow from 2pm-5pm and Thursday from 9am-5pm.
