DELIVERING new budget variants along with an options the latest safety gadgets, Mercedes-Benz has revealed its Vito and Valente van range.

There is an initial promotion for the entry-level model at $36,990 drive-away, and $39,990 for the long wheelbase. After the initial marketing phase, prices for the Vito range start from $37,140 (down $1850), while the people-mover Valente has risen by $1890 to $56,380.

Across the range is an Audio 15 stereo system with full Bluetooth compatibility, three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, air con, along with safety features including cross-wind assist and a system which analyses the driver's inputs and tells them when to take a break to avoid drowsy driving.

The Vito is available in panel van and crew cab models.

The panel van is offered in either short or long wheelbase as well as a choice of front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive.
Crew Cabs are mid-wheel base.

All three lengths (4895mm, 5140mm and 5370mm) are 132mm longer than the models they replace. Standard height is 1910mm, while optional roof rails add 48mm.

Vitos are available two turbo diesel engines available in four power outputs.

Front-wheel drive models are motivated by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder generating 84kW/270Nm, while rear-wheel drive are powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder in three levels of tune: 114 BlueTEC with 100kW/330Nm, 116 BlueTEC with 120kW/380Nm, and  119 BlueTEC 140kW/440Nm.

The front-wheelers have a payload of 1285kg in short wheelbase guise and 1235kg in long wheelbase. Other variants have payloads between 895kg (Crew Cab mid wheelbase) to 1180kg for the rear-wheel drive short wheelbase van.

Mercedes-Benz claims fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 30% - depending on model.

Six-speed manual transmissions are standard on 111CDI and 114 BlueTEC variants. The seven-speed automatic with torque converter is optional for the 114 BlueTEC model, but is standard on the 116 BlueTEC and 119 BlueTEC.

Meanwhile, the new Valente arrives as an entry-level people mover for Mercedes with space for nine people.
While the standard seating configuration is 2:3:3, a bench can be implemented up front to provide accommodation for nine.

Like the vans, the Valente is 132mm longer, now measuring 5140mm with a maximum standard height of 1890mm.

Valente also uses the same 2.2-litre turbo diesel as the Vito, but it is only available with the 120kW/380Nm version. It is partnered with a seven-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel for manual style control.

The Driving Assistance Package has blind spot warning which lights up when a vehicle sits outside your side mirror line of vision, collision prevention assist that can help avoid or lessen the impact of a crash, lane keep assist which sends vibrations through the wheel if you get too close to the lines and a leather-trimmed steering wheel for $1600. Delete the collision prevention function and you can get the rest for $1300.

Vitos and Valentes can be optioned with automatic parking and a reversing camera as part of a $1700 package. Add sat nav to that group for a total cost of $2400 in the Technology Package.
