QUEENSLAND LNP Leader Deb Frecklington has praised retiring Caloundra MP Mark McArdle for his outstanding service to his electorate and the state.

"Mark was a strong advocate for his community, he fought hard for the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and campaigned for better transport infrastructure like the duplication of the Sunshine Coast rail line and Bruce Highway upgrades.

"Mark was a respected senior Cabinet Minister in the previous LNP Government and saved households hundreds of dollars a year by deregulating the southeast Queensland retail electricity market.”

Ms Frecklington said Mr McArdle had recognised the potential of a new and united political force and was one of the architects of the Liberal National Party.

"As Leader of the Liberal Party and Deputy Leader of the LNP following the merger, he has truly made a difference to Queensland politics,” she said.

"Mark's legacy is a strong LNP and a proud Caloundra community.

"Mark will continue to be a fierce advocate for his community right up until the next election and he is determined to return the LNP to government in 2020.”

"Mark has been a mentor and a friend to many in the LNP and we wish Mark and his wife Judy all the best for the future,” she said.

Ms Frecklington said a new LNP candidate for the seat of Caloundra would be announced in due course.
