Wide Bay to share in $50M mental health funding
THE Federal Government has announced funding of $52,967,426 over three years for the Central Queensland, Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast Primary Health Network to improve mental health services.
Member for Wide Bay Llew O'Brien said PHNs were independent regional health organisations that commissioned health services, including mental health, in response to the needs of the community.
Health Minister Greg Hunt said PHNs co-ordinated local support for services such as child and youth mental health, psychological therapy, severe and complex illness, community-based suicide prevention and indigenous mental health.
In 2017-18, about 200,000 Australians accessed services through PHNs.
