Men's health week promotes healthy living in men and boys

MORGAN Collins believes that getting children into the routine of healthy eating and exercising at a young age is crucial in growing strong and healthy bodies and forming good habits.

As a personal trainer at Charleville Gym, he knows the benefits of getting the heart pumping and the blood moving, whether it be a solo gym workout or a social game of touch.

With this week being Men's Health Week, men and boys are being reminded to make healthy lifestyle choices, to minimise the risk of developing heart problems later in life. "It's important to take every chance you can to move and keeping the heart active,” Mr Collins said.

"A lot of people work in sedentary office jobs so they should be trying to get some exercise in before or after work.

"Parents need to be good role models for their children and ingrain healthy lifestyle habits.”

The theme of this year's Men's Health Week involves keeping boys and men healthy, with a focus on what males of any age can do to help fight the single biggest killer of Australians, heart disease.

"Keeping your heart and bones strong through exercise helps reduce health risks,” Mr Collins said. "Find physical activity you enjoy doing and stick to it.”
