Memorial Shield to honour the Erlandsens

URUNGA Football Club and Northern Storm FC have united to play a special round of seniors football games today to commemorate the loss of Dixie and her daughter Rachel Erlandsen.

The Dixie and Rachael Erlandsen Memorial Shield is a new annual event between the two clubs to honour the pair after they were tragically killed in a car accident in Valla last November.

Both were well-known at both football clubs, Dixie was the president of Urunga FC and Rachel played to for the Northern Storm for two seasons.

Discussions about honouring Rachel's and Dixie's memory began at their memorial service at Hungry Head last year between executives at both Football clubs.

President of Northern Storm FC, Michael Lloyd said the shield will serve as a strong reminder of the great community work Dixie and Rachel participated in.

"They were both just great people, not just soccer related, they were generous and very volunteer-orientated," Mr Lloyd said.

"It's really good to have something long term so people can remember what they had achieved."
