Melrose in full bloom

NAMBUCCA Heads 'super centre' Jay Melrose didn't have long to lament not playing in the Group 2 Rugby League grand final as a member of the winning South Grafton team.

Melrose played for the Rebels in 2014 but his season ended prematurely through suspension, so he switched to the Roosters for 2015 looking for a new start.

Nambucca just missed a place in the big match but Melrose was honoured for a stellar year by winning the Rex Hardaker Memorial Award as player of the year.

He also claimed two other awards to make him one of the region's most successful players of recent times.
