Meet the Coast's new 'diamond studded' netball stars today

WHO DO you think will be the first two players to sign with the Sunshine Coast Lightning in the new National Netball League?

The new kids on the Coast will announce their first two recruits today at Sunshine Plaza, Maroochydore from 2.30pm.

The Sunshine Coast's first elite national sporting outfit has invited the community and netball fans from across the Coast to be part of this exciting announcement.

Not only will fans be able to meet the new club's first two signings, they can stick around for a shootout with the players and a chance to win the very first signed Lightning netball.

The club has hinted both players will be "diamond studded superstars”, which suggests New Zealand and English netball stalwarts Laura Langman and Geva Mentor, who have been linked to the club for 2017, are out of the picture for now.

Western Australian sharp-shooter Caitlin Bassett and NSW Swifts player Stephanie Wood have also been linked to the side.

Lightning's first player signings comes just one day after the championship-winning Queensland Firebirds released its squad for the 2017 season.

Netball Queensland yesterday confirmed Laura Clemesha, Kate Shimmin, Kimberley Jenner, Gabi Simpson, Mahalia Cassidy, Caitlyn Nevins, Jemma Mi Mi, Gretel Tippett, Romelda Aiken and Abigail Latu-Meafou have all signed with the Firebirds for next season.
