Mead and Hurrell back to boost Titans’ finals hopes

TITANS flier David Mead says he has full confidence his knee will hold up in his return to NRL action against the Dragons at Jubilee Oval tomorrow night.

Mead returns to the fullback role after a nine-week absence.

“I’ve got 100% confidence in the knee and I wouldn’t go out unless I was confident,” he said.

“We’ve been doing a fair bit of contact at training so I won’t be going in there thinking about it but it will be good to get a game under my belt.”

Also set to return from injury is former Warriors centre Konrad Hurrell, who Mead believes is capable of getting back to his blockbusting best at the Gold Coast.

“He’s working towards that. I just can’t wait to get out there and play with him, and see him running over guys,” Mead said.

“He used to run over guys in our team and now he’s going to be doing it for us, so I’m pretty excited about that.”

The 27-year-old Blues hopeful said Greg Bird would add a bit more grunt to his usual aggressive game after he was dropped from Laurie Daley’s team Origin team that played against Queensland last night.

“Having Birdy there is a huge boost for us and I’ll know he’ll go out and make a statement,” Mead said.

Mead said there was a real buzz at training with the Titans in ninth place on the ladder and still in contention for a finals berth, after a number of disappointing seasons.

“It is exciting, but you don’t want to look too far ahead,” he said.

“I’ve spoken to a number of the boys, especially guys like Chris McQueen, who won a grand final not too long ago. He just said ‘take it week by week and make sure we get the results’.”
