MCG far from pitch perfect for Real Madrid's clash with Roma

REAL Madrid coach Rafa Benitez is unhappy with the playing surface at the Melbourne Cricket Ground ahead of tonight's clash with Roma in the International Champions Cup.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, Benitez said he was happy with the training facilities and the reception he and the team had received, but added: "Today I have to say - I say now because I want to push a little bit - the pitch was not the best.

"We have to beware of that, we have an important game. Hopefully they can do the best for the game. I know it won't be easy."

Real Madrid is likely to feature superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (pictured).

Meanwhile, Melbourne City coach John van't Schip said his team's meeting with sister club Manchester City on the Gold Coast tonight was an "historic moment''.

The game is a warm-up for the EPL side ahead of the Champions Cup.
