Massive dog matches hotel trade

BUSINESS is booming at the iconic Golden Dog Hotel at Glenreagh. You only need to look at the statue on the outside of the pub to see by how much.

Owner Warren Dean is replacing the old 30cm by 45cm structure with a new 6m by 4.8m statue due to be finished soon.

His reason for replacing the statue is “to bring more customers,” he said.

Although there will be a public revealing when the statue is finished, people are already coming to see it.

Mr Dean formerly helped construct the Big Banana and he thinks that the dog is much more complicated to design. It will be made from cement and steel.

Being very popular, the Golden Dog Hotel has patrons from Iluka, Coffs Harbour and Dorrigo. The response from Dean’s patrons about building the new dog has been 98% positive.

“Four years ago I had five employees and now there are 16,” Mr Dean said.
