Martells Rd bridge to open this week

THE new Martells Rd bridge over the Pacific Hwy will open to traffic on Friday as part of the $780 million Nambucca Heads to Urunga Pacific Highway upgrade.

The bridge was scheduled to open today, however the opening was postponed due to weather conditions.

Motorists will be directed by traffic control onto the new bridge to allow work to progress on the new highway under the bridge, weather permitting.

Major work commenced in June last year and more than 560 cubic metres of concrete was used to build the 67 metre long structure.

An RMS spokeswoman said the bridge will improve safety for motorists who need to cross the Pacific Hwy.

"Motorists are advised work will still be ongoing near Martells Rd and are advised to plan their journeys with minor delays expected," she said.

The complete 22km upgrade will open to traffic next year.
